Punctuality in the Military Essay

Punctuality in a military environment is crucial as it enables tasks to be completed, and allows leaders to conduct accountability, PCCs and PCIs for particular operations. Also, depending on the severity or how often a soldier conducts the offense, being late can lead to UCMJ action. This essay will provide in some detail the benefits of being punctual as well as note possible consequences. On a small scale, being punctual for formations and general points of duty allows leaders to ensure accountability for their soldiers, address notes and tasks for the day, and promotes organization within the unit. In a larger picture, everyone’s responsibilities for the day are dependent on the entire unit to be where they need to be at the appropriate time. For example, in the event of a company going to the range the armor has to be available to open the arms room to issue the weapons as leaders need ample time to take accountability of their soldiers and to thoroughly conduct pre-comba t checks and pre-combat inspections. Support units are obligated to arrive on time due to their responsibility to provide ammunition and transportation. Something as simple as the armor being late can cause a domino effect for the entire mission. Repeated tardiness can cause a lot of issues for the unit but it more than likely can severely impact the soldier making the offense. Leaders may choose to annotate events of tardiness in the service members counseling packet. If the soldier has received enough counseling’s, or if a single event is severe, then the leader can push for administrative action such as filing for an Article 15. A soldier who is late can be charged with violation to multiple punitive articles prescribed in the UCMJ: Article. 86. Absence without leave Any member of the armed forces who, without authority— (1) fails to go to his appointed place of duty at the time prescribed; (2) goes from that place; or (3) absents himself or remains absent from his unit, organization, or place of duty at which he is required to be at the time prescribed; shall be punished as a court-martial may direct. Article 87. Missing movement Any person subject to this chapter who through neglect or design misses the movement of a ship, aircraft, or unit with which he is required in the  course of duty to move shall be punished as a court-martial may direct. Article 92. Failure to obey order or regulation Any person subject to this chapter who— (1) violates or fails to obey any lawful general order or regulation; (2) having knowledge of any other lawful order issued by a member of the armed forces, which it is his duty to obey, fails to obey the order; or (3) is derelict in the performance of his duties; shall be punished as a court-martial may direct. Granted, some situations aren’t as severe as other but being late is something that can become a reoccurring issue should it be left to become a habit. A habit like that can lead a soldier to being late for something that is truly serious, like missing movement for deployment or real-world mission. In a situation like that, lateness is a serious offense and can the leave the soldier with heavy consequences. Being late, should it become a chronic problem, can also severely impact a soldier’s professional development. Not only by having adverse effects within his development in the unit but when it comes to being looked at for schools or professional progression. A good leader is not going to recommend a soldier for Warrior Leaders Course or any tab school if he can’t trust the soldier to be on time. At WLC here on Fort Carson, if you are inexcusably late once then you are not eligible for Commandant’s List even if you have the highest GPA in the academy. If you are late a second time then you can be removed from the academy, if not removed then you can be written a marginal 1059 and with that any soldier looking to the Army as a career will have a difficult, if not impossible, time getting promoted. In a situation like that, it becomes a wasted effort for the academy, or any other NCOES school, a waste and embarrassment for the unit and the leader that recommended the soldier in the first place. That is time and money being spent on a soldier that may have been seen as having potential to being a great leader but because something as simple as being on time put him in the position to be kicked out then he is stuck either having to redo the course, granted if he gets another opportunity depending on his leaders or the unit. From what I have learned from talking to a senior soldier, there was a point where if a soldier got kicked out of a NCOES school for being late then he is put onto the bottom of the waiting list and most don’t get a second chance at the course. I personally may not  be staying in the Army but I still have months before I am out the door. I still need to abide by the Army standard so that I do not either develop bad habits that can hinder my professional development in the civilian sector nor cause myself to be in trouble as I work towards beginning my transition out of the service. There are ways I can help myself to always be on time, for instance, I can make sure that my alarm is set and is loud enough so I don’t sleep through it. I can set myself enough time in the morning so I don’t have to rush out the door and I have enough of a buffer in the event traffic at the gate decides it’s going to be extra bad one particular morning. If, by all means, I have done everything to prevent myself from being late and the situation still puts me in the position, I am to notify my leadership well before my appointed time.

In the camera shot after this we can hear flapping and laughing of the creatures suggesting that it is a vampire of some sort. This part of the film, this would make the audience jumpy because it goes from a close up on the guard to show his fear and a point of view shot from the creature to show its getting closer. When the creatures finally get the guard we see the door been ripped off and screaming of the guard, the cameras very cleverly disguise is to the audience can not see what is been ripped apart. Domestic Windmill using Bevel Gear Mechanism Introduction: CE1.1: In this career episode, I will be focusing on one of the projects which I have carried out while pursuing my undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering. This project helped me in understanding the working mechanism of bevel gears and how renewable resources can be used to produce electricity. Background: CE 1.2: Wind energy has been used for various purposes over the years. The concept of windmill was established in the 10th century and has been improving ever since. The main principle working of windmill is conversion of wind energy to rotational energy by means of vanes called blades, which is then converted into mechanical energy with the help of bevel gears. CE 1.3: The main aim of the project was to produce four times the power than the actual windmill (i.e. 4:1). It is based on the principle of the power generation in the actual wind mill. Another aspect of the project was also using the mechanisms of bevel gears, bearings, shaft, and pulley to generate power from the actual wind mill. CE 1.4: The organisational structure of the project is as follows: CE 1.5: The following activities were essential to successful competition of the project: Being on par with the timeframe given by the professor. I had to read books related to bevel gears and windmill to understand the working procedure. Have discussions with project supervisor and team member on how to carry out the work. Discuss with lab technicians how to connect the bevel gears with the shafts. I proposed the design of the windmill and carried out the necessary calculations required. The project documentation was completed along with my team member which presented my finding and the results to the project supervisor and the faculty. Personal Engineering Activity: CE 1.6 Working on a project is the most interesting part where learning is very essential and crucial in successful completion of the project. I first approached my project supervisor along with my team member to discuss about the different ideas. After careful examination, myself and my team member decided to work on something which helps in reducing the pollution and working with renewable resources. Which lead to working on power generation of windmill with help of bevel gears. CE 1.7 The initial step of the project was to design the model of the windmill and how to establish the connection between the shafts, gears, motor, and batteries. The design of the model was carried out using AutoCAD software. I learned the basics from Design of Machine Members subject and with the help of lab assistant understood the tools essential for creating the model. Once our project guide approved of the design of windmill, the assembly of parts was needed to obtain the working model of the proposed windmill. CE 1.8 Once the parts were obtained for the completion of windmill, my team member and I had experienced difficulty in establishing a proper connection, but with the help of project guide and lab technicians myself and my team member were able to get the gears and the shafts working. The windmill consisted of three vanes which were connected to a primary shaft and fan hub. This setup was then connected the gear and ball bearing on both its end. I then suggested that each shaft be fixed to its respective dynamo using gripper belts. The gripper belt connected between the shafts and dynamo pulleys makes dynamo produce the electrical energy. ANSYS was carried out to study the stress, strain, and heat dissipation due to constant rotation of the bevel gears. I found that total deformation was the maximum on the outer edge of the gears and minimum on the inner edge as major forces acted on the outer edge due to the shape of the bevel gears whenever they came into contact. Once the stress analysis was carried. Myself and my team member carried out the power generated by the windmill using the basic power equation. The project does not produce any harmful greenhouse gases which pollute the atmosphere. Seven Samurai Kurosawa creates a masterpiece with the Seven Samurai. This film was created in 1954, it is a Japanese film and it has English subtitles. The Seven Samurai is a story about a small farming village in 16th century Japan that is under constant threat from traveling groups of outlaw bandits. The elders that live in the village decide to hire a defense force to protect them from these outlaws. They enlist a variety of samurai for hire and samurai are willing to work for their food. The mission of the seven samurai is to protect the village against almost impossible odds. These people who live in the village need the samurai, but they also fear the samurai. What is really interesting about this film is the difference between the simple farming people and the more experienced samurai. The samurai have lived a life of violence and confrontation and the farming people have lived a very simplistic lifestyle. The farmers and the samurai must now depend on one another to survive which forces them to have relationships that would not normally take place. This film had spectacular performances from the actors, especially Takashi Shimura, who plays Kanbei. Kanbei is a seasoned samurai and he was first chosen by the elders of the village. Toshiro Mifune’s plays Kikuchiyo who is an abrasive samurai who bridges the gap between the warriors and the people who live in the village. Kurosawa’s final battle scene is climatic. Kurosawa helps the audience to understand the battle. This film was completely filmed in black and white and the sets, costumes, acting and cinematography all created in this battle scene to show us how a battle scene should be portrayed.

Teachers have the responsibility of providing their students with the skills necessary for success later in life, and the most essential skills are the ability to read and write. As time evolves and technology advances, the skills necessary to get by in life have also progressed. As a result, it is no longer enough to be able to read and write on a basic level. The Workforce Investment Act of 1998 defines literacy as â€Å"an individual’s ability to read, write, speak in English, compute and solve problems at levels of proficiency necessary to function on the job, in the family of the individual and in society.† (National Institute for Literacy). As a teacher, this definition is two-fold as it is the teacher’s responsibility to be literate in the profession as well as prepare his/her students to be literate in their own future professions and society. In order to be literate in the profession, teachers need to know and understand the federal and state standards and be able to apply and incorporate the standards into their daily lessons. Furthermore, a teacher needs to be able to interpret the standards in order to adapt them to fit their students’ needs. Jerome was waiting for me in my apartment as soon as I stepped through the door. â€Å"You have some nerve,† he growled. I set my suitcase down. Normally that tone of voice would have set me hiding, but I was in no mood to listen to him now after my long drive-or rather, lack of a drive. There'd been an accident that had put traffic at a standstill, and I'd sat in my car for a very long and very annoying time. â€Å"Look, Cedric told me to,† I said, crossing my arms as though they might actually shield me from him. â€Å"I didn't do anything wrong.† â€Å"You're not supposed to do what he says.† Jerome sat on the arm of my couch and flicked his cigarette over a nearby ashtray, which I took as a great courtesy on his part. â€Å"You're supposed to do what I say.† â€Å"He told me to go home. He didn't have anything for me to do until the Satanists had their breakfast meeting.† Jerome's glare momentarily faltered. â€Å"What are you talking about?† â€Å"What are you talking about? I knew the bookstore really could function without me, but the motherly instinct kicked in nonetheless. And since I did have the time, I decided to go over and check on things. Anything you've been wanting for a long time? Something you've missed?† Unbidden, a memory of my childhood came to me. The Cyprian town I'd lived in returned to me in startling clarity, its colors, smells, and airs. â€Å"I grew up around beaches,† I said softly. â€Å"Sun and surf.† I shook myself out of the wistful memory, feeling a bit embarrassed at my dreamy state. â€Å"But I'm in the wrong place for that.† â€Å"Yeah,† she agreed. â€Å"You'd have to move to California for that.† We had another round of drinks and talked about other things, and to my surprise, I had a really great time. I remembered now why I liked Maddie so much. She was so easy to talk to, so funny and smart. I didn't have a lot of female friends, and there was a big difference between her and the guys I normally hung out with. Women needed other women sometimes. I was signing my credit card bill when Seth walked over to our table. Maddie looked up, beaming. â€Å"Hey, sweetie.† She stood up and kissed him, something that unnerved both Seth and me. All of a sudden, the warm and pleasant feeling that had been building within me shattered. Maddie glanced at me explanatorily. â€Å"I called Seth to get a ride while you were in the bathroom.† I smiled tightly. â€Å"Ah.† Maddie turned back to him. â€Å"You're missing out. This place has great drinks. You sure you don't want to break the rules? No problem. Let me run to the bathroom, and we'll go. We'll give you a ride, Georgina.† I should have run away then and there, but Maddie dashed off quickly, and I felt it would be rude to leave without saying good-bye to her. Seth sat down in her chair and clasped his hands in front of him. Our usual wall of awkwardness slammed down between us. â€Å"I don't need a ride,† I said abruptly. Seth glanced up at me. â€Å"It's a long walk.† â€Å"Not really. It's only six blocks.† â€Å"Yeah, but you've been drinking.† I scoffed. â€Å"I had two drinks. You know I'm right.† â€Å"You're making this into a bigger deal than it is. It doesn't always have to be about us.† â€Å"Of course it does†¦I mean, inasmuch as there is an us. You got out. I'm not your concern.† â€Å"I can still worry about you. Still care.† I leaned forward, possibly emboldened by my martinis. â€Å"You made it perfectly clear how much you care, and that's fine. I've got a whole new life now.† His look turned wry. â€Å"Yeah, your new life seems great.† That incensed me further, largely because I wasn't really convinced my new life was all that great either. â€Å"It is. I can do whatever I want now. I don't have to worry about hurting your delicate sensibilities when I sleep with someone or having to modify our dates to boring things that don't take you out of your comfort zone or interfere with your writing schedule.† It was horrible of me.
